Advent Calendar Day 5 - Which Witch?
Which Witch is me in today’s Advent Calendar? Maybe I should phrase it a bit differently.. am I a good witch or a bad witch?
I wish I could answer like Dorothy and say, “Why I’m not a witch at all!” but it wouldn’t be true. Like most people I have good and bad within me. It’s part of what makes us all delightfully human. I never had a sister, but I’d think if I had grown up with one, we’d be laughing our heads off at this one. Perhaps I could say that’s my EVIL twin in the black hat and I was always the sweet one?
But who’s to say Glinda was good anyhow? I mean, she arrives surrounded by a magical bubble, offers no help at all, aside from affixing those ruby slippers onto Dorothy’s size 8 feet. Seems to me those slippers were more trouble than they were worth! She could have just stayed living like a giant in Munchkin Land, with a host of wee lads and lassies at her beck and call. If you ask me, Glinda was pretty passive aggressive.. and LAZY! Yes, lazy. Floating around in her pretty bubble, unable to see the real horrors surrounding her. You want a REAL earthy character? A character who would tell you the TRUTH? That would be the Wicked Witch. So very misunderstood and beautiful in her terrible wickedness.
Which is why the Wicked Witch wins to fight yet another whimsical match in yet another whimsical year in my Advent Calendar this season! Go Wicked!!
